Wonderland

It’s not so much that I hate winter but that winter hates me.

It’s not the cold. I don’t mind the cold. It’s not even the snow. Snow is a minor annoyance. Work takes care of snow.

It’s the darkness.

This year I’ve learned that starting work early means I’m at my desk when the sun shines on the days when the sun shines.

I’m even lucky enough that the windows behind my desk track the low winter sun as it moves through the day in the darkest parts of the year. That means direct sunlight in my eyeballs on the days I need it most.

Ice, on the other hand, I can live without. We all can. It serves no purpose. Fuck ICE.

While exploring a new-to-me island forest, I took these photos of a winter wonderland.

This is snow’s place. Hanging from trees, covering rocks, catching the light.

I’ve been experimenting with a more muted, lower contrast, creamy look in both color and black and white photos. I went with the black and white version for most of these, but I think they compliment each other.

You statistically won’t let me know in the comments which you prefer. You already left or scrolled past this to see the photos. But which?
